Hong Kong International Airport bustled with excitement Sunday as travelers eagerly embarked on Christmas holiday journeys, with the airport anticipating around 200,000 passengers daily during the festive season.

Long queues stretched across check-in areas at Chek Lap Kok, reflecting a robust return to pre-pandemic travel patterns. Passengers expressed enthusiasm for destinations ranging from tropical getaways to winter wonderlands.

Local resident Grace Koo highlighted the appeal of overseas travel, citing Hong Kong’s subdued current atmosphere. “There’s not much to do here,” Koo said, explaining her six-day trip to Thailand that includes a meditation camp and visits to Bangkok and Pattaya.

The Kwok family represented another typical holiday traveler group, with plans to visit Osaka and Universal Studios Japan. “We want our kids to experience Christmas somewhere different,” the father noted, hoping for a potential snowfall to enhance their winter experience.

The Airport Authority recommended public transportation for airport access and emphasized the significant passenger volume expected during the holiday period.
