The beloved giant pandas An An and Ke Ke are expected to make their public debut at Hong Kong’s Ocean Park in December, thrilling visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the rare and charismatic creatures.
The pandas, gifted to the park by the Chinese government, arrived today and have settled into their new home at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures exhibit. According to Ocean Park Corporation chairman Paulo Pong Kin-yee, the park is well-equipped to care for the pandas, with adequate staffing and ample space within the themed park.
“We’re excited to welcome An An and Ke Ke and provide them a world-class habitat,” Pong said. “Our goal is to have them available for public viewing during the Christmas season at the earliest.”
To ensure a smooth transition, two experts from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will be staying in Hong Kong to assist the park’s staff. Meanwhile, the park’s existing panda facilities remain temporarily closed as Ying Ying and Le Le recover after becoming new parents, and the new arrivals acclimate to their surroundings.
However, Pong expressed optimism about the future, stating that the park plans to develop panda-themed products and food offerings for visitors. The park is also exploring potential collaborations with various organizations to create new business opportunities.
“These pandas are a true treasure, and we’re thrilled to share them with the public,” Pong said. “We can’t wait for everyone to come and experience the joy and wonder of these magnificent creatures.”
