MANILA — Cebu Pacific has unveiled plans to establish a dedicated overseas Filipino workers (OFW) processing center at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, marking a significant milestone in supporting the country’s migrant workforce.
The airline announced Wednesday a strategic partnership with Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation and the Department of Migrant Workers to create a streamlined service hub for departing and returning Filipino workers.
Construction of the center is set to begin immediately, with operational readiness expected by June. Located in Terminal 2, the six-square-meter facility will offer comprehensive document processing services, including overseas employment certificates and exit clearances.
“We recognize the valuable contributions of OFWs to our economy and the need for seamless access to essential services,” said Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific’s chief marketing and customer experience officer.
The project underscores the airline’s commitment to supporting migrant workers, with Cebu Pacific partially financing the initiative. Aboitiz InfraCapital will provide the airport space free of charge for five years.
Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac emphasized the center’s symbolic importance, describing it as a testament to the nation’s appreciation for its overseas workers.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport, serving as a critical gateway for Central Visayas, hosts 21 airlines connecting to 14 international destinations. The region saw 90,562 land-based OFWs processed in 2024, highlighting the center’s potential impact.
This innovative collaboration represents a significant step in simplifying administrative processes for Filipino workers, potentially setting a new standard for migrant worker support in the region.
