The Hong Kong government announced enhanced public transportation services Wednesday for the upcoming Labour Day Golden Week, anticipating significant cross-boundary travel during the holiday period.
Transport officials said they have coordinated with local and cross-boundary public transport operators to strengthen services, particularly on May 1, 3, and 5, when peak travel is expected. Measures include increasing shuttle bus frequencies and cross-boundary coach quotas.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shuttle bus will operate at intervals of less than one minute during peak hours, while the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus will run approximately every two minutes at maximum frequency.
Local franchised bus routes connecting boundary crossing points will see increased service levels beyond typical weekend schedules. The MTR Corporation will also enhance East Rail Line train services between Admiralty and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau from May 1 to 5.
Authorities advised travelers to plan accordingly, recommending travel during non-peak hours and advance ticket reservations for cross-boundary coaches. The Emergency Transport Coordination Centre will monitor traffic conditions around the clock.
Motorists should expect potential queuing at boundary control points and pay close attention to variable message signs and traffic indicators. The HKeMobility mobile app offers real-time traffic snapshots at the HZMB Hong Kong Port.
Special traffic arrangements may be implemented at Lok Ma Chau Control Point and Shenzhen Bay Port to facilitate smooth public transport movement.
