LAOAG CITY, Philippines — A series of earthquakes rocked the waters near Dalupiri Island and Calayan, Cagayan, early Monday morning, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recording 17 tremors by 8 a.m.
The most powerful quake, registering at magnitude 5.8, struck at approximately 1:18 a.m., located about 25 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island. This seismic activity, classified as tectonic in origin, has been felt widely across Cagayan and neighboring provinces, including Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs officials noted that the tremors varied in depth, ranging from shallow to moderately shallow, indicating active fault movement in the region. The agency has urged residents to remain vigilant for potential aftershocks as the geological situation unfolds.
