Singer Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement Tuesday in a joint Instagram post, sharing photos of the proposal and writing, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The post included images of the couple in a garden filled with pink and white flowers, with one showing Kelce kneeling before Swift and another highlighting a large diamond ring on her left hand. A snippet of Swift’s song “So High School” played in the background.
Swift, 35, and Kelce, 35, began dating in 2023 after Swift performed at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs. At the time, Kelce told the “New Heights” podcast he was disappointed he didn’t get a chance to meet her or exchange numbers during the show. Swift later said she was charmed by his public interest, comparing the moment to an “’80s John Hughes movie” where someone would stand outside her window with a boombox.
Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner—including four Album of the Year trophies—has dominated the music industry for over a decade. Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, has been a key target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, forming one of the NFL’s most dynamic duos.
Their engagement quickly sparked celebration online, with their Instagram post garnering more than 17 million likes by Tuesday afternoon. Fans quoted Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story,” calling it a “love story.” The NFL congratulated the couple, while the Chiefs’ official X account posted, “Today is a fairytale. Congrats to Travis and Taylor—we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!”
Celebrities and brands joined in: Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, wrote, “Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two.” Google added a confetti animation to searches for “Taylor Swift,” and Buffalo Wild Wings— which employs Kelce’s brother Jason as a spokesperson—offered to cater the wedding.
Even former President Donald Trump, who previously criticized Swift, weighed in. Asked about the engagement, he told reporters, “I wish them a lot of luck.” He added, “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person.”
No wedding date has been announced.
