MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday escalated its alert status to Level 3 for Israel and Iran, urging all overseas Filipinos in the two nations to return home immediately as conflict between the countries intensifies.
The DFA’s decision comes as the Israel-Iran conflict, now in its seventh day, shows no signs of abating. The violence erupted after Israel’s military actions prompted deadly retaliatory strikes from Iran, leading to the closure of air space and seaports in both countries.
“Travel by Filipinos to both these countries is highly discouraged due to the ongoing crisis,” the DFA said in a statement, emphasizing the risks posed by the volatile situation.
Under Alert Level 3, the Philippine government is facilitating voluntary repatriation for Filipinos in Israel and Iran. The DFA advised those wishing to return to coordinate with the Philippine Embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran. Filipinos in Israel can contact the embassy at +972 54 466 1188 or via email at telaviv.pe@dfa.gov.ph, while those in Iran can reach the embassy’s 24/7 hotline at +989 12 213 6801 or email tehran.pe@dfa.gov.ph.
The DFA noted that alert levels are under constant review, with adjustments based on developments on the ground. “The Department hopes that parties will cease hostilities soon,” the statement added, reflecting a call for de-escalation amid the escalating tensions.
The Philippine government’s priority remains the safety of its citizens abroad, as thousands of overseas Filipino workers, particularly in Israel, face uncertainty due to the conflict. The DFA’s swift action underscores the urgency of ensuring their safe return as the situation deteriorates.
