Marcos raises military personnel’s daily subsistence allowance from P150 to P350

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. v2

In an executive order signed Thursday, Marcos raised the daily subsistence allowance for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officers and enlisted personnel from 150 pesos to 350 pesos, effective retroactively beginning January 1, 2025.

The substantial 133% increase aims to address the rising cost of living and recognize the critical role of military personnel in defending national sovereignty, according to the presidential directive.

“It is imperative to increase the Subsistence Allowance of all Officers and Enlisted Personnel of the AFP to protect and promote their welfare,” the executive order stated.

The last adjustment to military subsistence allowances was made in 2015, leaving service members struggling to meet basic daily nutritional needs amid escalating economic pressures.

The increase will benefit active-duty soldiers, military trainees, reserve officers, and cadets, potentially boosting morale and operational readiness across the Philippines’ armed forces.

Funding for the wage enhancement will be drawn from existing AFP appropriations in the 2025 budget, with the Department of Budget and Management identifying potential additional funding sources.

The executive order takes immediate effect upon publication, signaling the Marcos administration’s commitment to supporting military personnel.
