HONG KONG – After completing a month-long isolation period, Hong Kong’s newest panda residents are one step closer to meeting the public.
The two giant pandas, named An An and Ke Ke, were presented to the city by China’s central government. Ocean Park, the theme park where the pandas are housed, announced on Saturday that the pair’s health conditions have met the requirements set by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department.
“We’re thrilled to welcome An An and Ke Ke to their new home in Hong Kong,” said a spokesperson for Ocean Park. “While they’re still adapting to their surroundings, we’re excited for the public to get the chance to meet them in the coming weeks.”
The public will have to wait at least another 30 days before getting the opportunity to see the pandas in person, as the animals continue settling into their custom-built habitats at the park.
In the meantime, Ocean Park is inviting the public to get involved with the pandas’ arrival. Residents can submit suggestions for new names for the duo until tomorrow, along with a 100-word explanation. Additionally, a drawing competition will run until November 8, allowing people to showcase their artistic interpretations of the beloved black-and-white bears.
The arrival of the pandas marks an exciting chapter for Hong Kong, as the city continues to strengthen its ties with China. The animals are beloved symbols of the country, and their presence is sure to delight visitors from near and far.
