Filipino Crew Member Dies Mysteriously on P&O Cruise Ship During Transatlantic Voyage

MV Arvia, a cruise ship operated by P&O Cruises

The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced Thursday it is investigating the death of a Filipino crew member aboard the MV Arvia cruise ship during a transatlantic voyage.

The seafarer died Sunday while the vessel was en route from Southampton to Tenerife, according to government officials. The cruise ship, operated by P&O Cruises, is currently on a 14-night crossing to the Caribbean and is scheduled to arrive in Barbados on November 7.

The crew member’s identity remains undisclosed, and specific circumstances surrounding the death have not been released. The licensed manning agency that deployed the worker is coordinating with vessel owners to conduct a thorough investigation.

“We join the family in mourning and send our heartfelt sympathies,” the DMW said in a statement, pledging to provide ongoing support and regular updates to the deceased seafarer’s family.

The department emphasized its commitment to protecting Filipino workers abroad, noting that maritime professionals serve with “dedication and bravery in international waters.”

P&O Cruises has not yet publicly commented on the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released in the coming days.
