54th HK French Film Festival set to showcase 50 films

The Hong Kong French Film Festival returns for its 54th edition next month, showcasing more than 50 films from Nov. 19 to Dec. 11.

Organizers announced Wednesday that the lineup blends fresh 2025 releases — many not yet screened in France — with retrospectives honoring legendary French actor and director Gérard Jugnot and marking 130 years of cinema.

The program features 30 contemporary films and 20 from the retrospective selections, giving audiences a broad cinematic journey in local theaters.

Jugnot, known for roles in classics like “Les Choristes,” will make special appearances. He plans a book signing at Parenthèses, Hong Kong’s first French bookstore, and will join post-screening Q&A sessions for some of his most beloved works.

Rising French actress Garance Marillier, star of the horror hit “Raw,” kicks off the festival. She will attend the Nov. 19 opening screening of “Couture” and participate in the following Q&A.

The annual event, a staple for film lovers in the Chinese financial hub, highlights French cinema’s enduring appeal amid growing international collaborations.

Tickets and full schedules are available through the festival’s website.
