MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced Monday a comprehensive emergency response to safeguard over 200 Filipino workers caught in the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, pledging immediate repatriation efforts and robust support for overseas workers.

With geopolitical tensions mounting after recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, the Philippine government has elevated alert levels in both countries and initiated a voluntary repatriation program targeting vulnerable overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac is currently in Amman, Jordan, preparing to receive the first wave of 26 repatriates from Israel, underscoring the government’s proactive approach to worker safety.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of every Filipino,” Marcos emphasized in a recorded message, detailing the government’s multi-faceted assistance strategy.

The comprehensive support package includes PHP150,000 in financial aid, temporary housing, transportation assistance, and potential livelihood support for returning workers. Those choosing to permanently return will receive additional skills training and job placement services.

A critical concern remains a Filipino caregiver currently hospitalized, whom Marcos confirmed is stable but requires continued medical attention.

The Philippine Embassy in Iran is simultaneously preparing to repatriate an initial group of eight Filipino nationals, demonstrating a coordinated evacuation strategy.

Marcos urged Filipino workers in affected regions to maintain close communication with diplomatic missions, emphasizing the importance of timely reporting and following official guidance.
