JAKARTA, Feb. 22 (HKPinoyTV) — A destructive tornado tore through two regencies in the Indonesian province of West Java on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake as houses and factories were leveled by the powerful winds.

According to the West Java disaster mitigation agency, the impact of the tornado was felt most severely in Sumedang and Bandung regencies, where it wreaked havoc on the local communities. Reports indicate that 13 factories and 10 houses were severely damaged in Sumedang regency, while the toll in Bandung regency was even more staggering, with 18 factories and 233 houses reduced to rubble.

Hadi Rahmat, the spokesperson for the disaster mitigation agency, revealed that the tornado had affected over 800 families in these regencies, with more than 30 people sustaining injuries. “The victims are currently receiving medical treatment in various healthcare facilities,” he acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of prompt medical attention for those in need. To assist the affected residents, temporary shelters have been set up by the authorities.

The devastating tornado struck at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time (0900 GMT), catching residents off guard and leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The ferocity of the winds even caused blackouts in certain parts of the area, exacerbating the difficulties faced by the affected communities. Reports have emerged of trucks being overturned by the forceful wind, highlighting the sheer power of the tornado.
