The Hong Kong Police nabbed yesterday (24 August) two Filipino women allegedly on suspicion of “theft” and “obtaining property by deception” at Lantau Island. Both are holding HK IDs.
The Filipino women, aged 31 and 35, are suspected of being involved in 10 thefts between May and August and of making purchases with stolen credit cards. The victims suffered losses totaling about $238,000 in total.
In view of the rising trend of theft cases, the Lantau Police District, in conjunction with the Criminal Intelligence Bureau of the New Territories South Region, has launched an anti-theft operation to combat thefts in the area.
Since May, officers have conducted in-depth investigations into a number of burglary cases on Lantau Island. After reviewing a large amount of CCTV footage and analyzing the modus operandi, it was found that people were targeting and stealing property locked in lockers or left unattended in the changing rooms of private clubs.
The case is still under investigation, and the possibility of other arrests is not ruled out.
The case is classified by the Police as “Theft and obtaining property by deception”.
