Hong Kong is gearing up for a vibrant and enchanting floral extravaganza as the much-anticipated Hong Kong Flower Show 2024 is set to open its doors at Victoria Park. From tomorrow, March 15, until March 24, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of mesmerizing blooms and captivating landscapes, as the event showcases an array of breathtaking displays and activities.
This year’s flower show revolves around the theme of angelonia, also known as the “angel flower.” With its delicate flower shapes and refreshing fragrance, angelonia is a true spectacle to behold. The flower show will feature a stunning flower wall adorned with four giant angelonia models, embedded with orchids of various colors. This magnificent backdrop complements the vibrant sea of tulips that lies before it, creating a visual feast for attendees. Additionally, a parterre named “Angels in a Floral Sea” will showcase swathes of angelonia, promising to be a popular spot for photo enthusiasts.
The flower show goes beyond the realm of flowers, incorporating enchanting landscapes inspired by fairy tales. Visitors can embark on a whimsical journey through displays themed around beloved stories such as “The Journey to the West,” “Arabian Myths,” “The Candy House,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” and “The Wizard of Oz.” These finely crafted landscapes, stretching from the Hing Fat Street entrance to the Sugar Street entrance, exude a childlike and dreamy ambiance. Notably, “The Wizard of Oz” display features the iconic Rainbow Mountain, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the protagonists’ iconic adventure. “The Candy House” is a collaborative effort involving over 1,000 schoolchildren, resulting in a spectacular horticultural display featuring attractively shaped goodies. Attendees can even sit on chairs modeled after coffee cups for that perfect Instagram-worthy shot.
The central lawn of the flower show will captivate visitors with a breathtaking sunflower field, spanning an impressive 15 meters by 25 meters and boasting 5,000 vibrant sunflowers. Adjacent to the sunflower field lies a rose garden, adorned with over 4,000 fragrant roses of various species. This European-style garden, complete with decorative windows and doors, garden lighting, and decorative seats, creates a romantic backdrop. As twilight descends, the garden will be softly illuminated, enhancing its allure.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, a thematic floral wall adorned with carnations will grace the Hing Fat Street entrance of the flower show, paying homage to this milestone achievement. The event will witness the participation of 229 organizations, including 81 exhibitors from 12 countries, such as mainland China, Indonesia, Korea, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Poland, Malaysia, and the United States. This international presence ensures a diverse and captivating experience for all attendees.
Adding a touch of magic to the flower show, a brand-new light show called “Journey of Floral Shadows” will captivate spectators. Held at 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, and 8:30 pm every night, the show will project three-dimensional light sculptures onto the angelonia theme flower wall and the sea of tulips. This captivating display will provide visitors with a fresh perspective on the exhibits, transforming the surroundings into a mesmerizing spectacle under the night sky.
The Hong Kong Flower Show 2024 is not only a celebration of nature’s beauty but also a platform for promoting eco-friendly and waste reduction measures. The event encourages participating organizations, contractors, volunteers, and visitors to implement the principles of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,” striving towards a “Green Flower Show for All.” To support environmental protection efforts, attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and green shopping bags. Additionally, the showground will display QR codes for visitors to download the location map and information on the theme flower and landscape displays, emphasizing the commitment to waste reduction.
Beyond the captivating displays and floral wonders, the flower show offers a diverse range of activities for visitors of all ages. In addition to angelonia and other flowering plants, potted plants, floral arrangements, and landscape displays by local, mainland, and overseas organizations will be showcased. Commercial stalls will be set up, offering snacks, beverages, flowers, and horticultural products. Moreover, a wide array of educational and recreational fringe activities, including floral arrangement demonstrations, gardening lectures, music performances, and cultural showcases, will ensure a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.
The Hong Kong Flower Show is organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, with the invaluable support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, serving as its major sponsor for the 12th consecutive year. This year’s flower show is part of the “Art March” events organized by the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, further enriching Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.
