HONG KONG – Starting April 22nd, the public will have the chance to get up close and personal with a vibrant array of edible flowers and herbs at an exhibition hosted by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in Hong Kong Park.
The free exhibit, running daily from 9am to 5pm through June 10th, will feature over 500 varieties of springtime flora – from the fragrant Lemmon’s Marigold to the quick-blooming African Mallow and the versatile Nasturtium.
“With the warmer weather and longer days, Hong Kong’s climate is perfect for these edible plants to thrive,” said botanist Fiona Lam. “We’re excited to share their unique tastes, textures and uses with the community.”
Indeed, the exhibition will highlight not just the aesthetic appeal of these blooms, but also their culinary applications. Visitors can learn how the tender leaves of Lemmon’s Marigold make a delightful addition to teas, while the crunchy Nasturtium flowers, stems and roots offer a peppery punch to salads and stir-fries.
And it’s not just flowers on display. The showcase will also feature a variety of springtime herbs, like the aromatic spearmint, peppermint and grapefruit mint, all primed for planting in home gardens.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to discover the abundance of edible plants right in their own backyard,” Lam added. “We hope it inspires them to get creative in the kitchen and the garden this season.”
The exhibition at the Forsgate Conservatory in Hong Kong Park is free and open to the public. For green thumbs and gourmands alike, it promises to be a blooming delight.
